My third 5K
Today was my third 5k. I was just sure I was going to set a new PR. We were grouped with at the back of the ½ marathon which was a first for me. I have only experienced being started compeletly separate from the other groups. I walked around quite a bit before we started so I opted not to walk my first 5 mintues, which is what I usually do. I set off determined and a bit to fast. I got really tired a lot faster than I have in the past (maybe because I didn’t take a rest day yesterday). I began to get really frustrated. I realized how much I depend on my landmarks where I usually run to help me set my pace. I just could not find my grove. About mile 2 when I was passed by an 8 year old decked out in her Hello Kitty outfit and her mother pushing a stroller, I just started to laugh. I figured out what was wrong. It was my attitude. It really sucked. I was ticked off at my inability to find the right pace and unbelievably irritated at everything. So, I took off my headset, remembered how blessed I have been since my surgery and decided to reset my attitude and have fun. I made it a point to smile and say thanks to all the volunteers and police officers who were managing traffic. I went back to what I knew was ok….run for 2 minutes walk for one. The PR was not important, finishing with a productive, positive attitude was. So I finished with a smile on my face at only 30 seconds slower than my last 5k. It was a good thing to have happened to me. There are going to be good days and bad days and some of the bad days may be on race day. I have a long way to go, but I am going to get there. J I ended up going to the gym with my son for his training session and riding the stationary bike for 7 miles……..hmmmmm, maybe there is a Tri in my future??? Anyway, I don’t think I would make it with out you guys. You post on good days and bad and I learn from all of it. Thanks as always for your support.
Yeah our attitudes do play a lot in our performance and sometimes it is difficult to accept that not every race will be a PR and not ever run will be stellar, but every one can be one we learn from. Keep up the awesome work!

Keep up the great work. A TRI in your future sounds like a potential new goal. Have fun working whatever goals you set. Frustrations are all a part of the process. Try not to dwell on them too long.
