Water and running

You all know I'm no long distance uber runner.  I'm a mawmaw runner, but a runner none the less.  I do 4-5 miles max.

I wear a runners belt that has a small zipper compartment for my car key, and a holster thingee that holds a water bottle on my back (this whole gizmo goes around the waist).

When it gets hot (like already here in the deep South) I must have water with me, but I really don't like the heat trapped by this belt.....

So--my question to all of you is how do you carry your water when you run???

I do on afternoon or long runs.  I have a belt that I wear too, but I also have a handheld which might be better for you like this

You can cinch on your hand then you don't have to worry about holding on to it.

What' s a "mawmaw" I'm assuming it's a southern term?

As for the water, can't help ya there, but I can't imagine how you could do any distance without it!

Yes it is Southern!  many Southern children call their grandmother "mawmaw".  I, however, will be known as Gammy when my grands arrive!

I run like an old lady....but I'm running!!

My Grandmother in law is mamaw as well :)

Have you tried a CamelBak? I love mine. I have to say I dont run with it (YET!) if/when I do I think I'd want one with a belt strap so it doesnt bang around on my back. I seem to always need water.

I use a handheld and a single bottle holder that sits just above my butt in the back. So it doesn't really cause me any heat discomfort.

I just bring a water bottle with me, the kind that fits in a bike cage, and hold it. I used to have a belt but it drove me crazy.

I hold the water bottle in one had, my iphone in the other.  I can't stand holders/straps for either. I'm 'balanced' with something in each hand, lol.   I listen to books, not music when I run usually.

I have 3 different things I use

If it i short, I  use a handheld bottle that has a pocket with room for keys or some sports beans or a gel.  The part of this that I don't like is that after a while even that bottle feels heavy and I end up with sweaty hands.  I have to keep changing the bottle around.

If it is a little longer I have a race belt with a bigger pouch and it holds several flasks or I have another one that will hold a Large bottle and a couple gel flasks.

If I am really going to be out for a couple hours or more, then I try to put my son on his bike and make him pack the camelback.
I have tried running with the camelback and riding as well.  What I don't like about it is the heat it traps in.  You end up with a really sweaty spot on your back where that sits.
