anyone familiar with Haro Heartland bikes
To see if it would be a good bike to get started on, we first need to know what your goals are? Do you want a bike for general exercise? Ride trails?Group rides? Triathlons? Bikes are addicting so if you want to do it all you can always buy multiple bikes!

I took a look at the bike on Haro, looks like a great fitness bike. Its at the same price point as most hybrid bikes (that's what they are called) so if this is your p[rice point you are not stuck on the bike, you can just about get a hybrid bike in any brand.

I've been bike shopping for a fitness bike myself, and I have found that going into local bike shops and telling them my goals has been really helpful. Some bike shops are going to try and upsell you, but there are plenty of places that will help you get what you need. You might ask people in your area for recommendations on bike shops - like running shoes, every bike fits differently!

Adding to what Sue said.. when you buy from a bike shop you're not just choosing a bike, but you're choosing your bike shop. You want to shop from a place you feel comfortable with and feel like they're going to be supportive. When I lived in Lansing, MI I had a bike shop that would make minor repairs and adjustments on my bike for no charge.. but I brought my business to them.. I bought a new road bike from them, I would buy helmets there, biking clothes, etc.. so their time of making little repairs to my bike was an investment for them.
