First 10K and a Question

I ran my first 10K yesterday. It was really jogging with walk breaks, but I did it! My time was 1:23. I worried the whole race that the escort car would pass me. Actually after I sat through all the awards, had a snack, and was leaving.....ther were still people finishing.

After a race, do you rest the next day? I did not take ant food for the 10K. Will I need to take food with me during a half marathon? If so, what would you suggest? I have not tried any of the gels or blocks because I am afraid of th sugar content since I have dumped on Cliff bars.

I definitely improved over my first 5K in September which I finished in 55 minutes. I did not realize it was such a mental thing to race. I kind of freaked out at the start and had almost convinced myself to quit during th first block. But I kept running and that feeling went away. I hope I can do the same next month for th half marathon.

Yeah you will need to probably fuel your Half.  I do GU and Hammer Gels.  If you dump it is best to try them at home first, if they don't work you may want to look and Sports beans and GU Chomps  where you can do half servings and just do them more frequently.

I learned that getting the miles for the Half is the easy part. The hard part is the nutrition which I will quickly admit to sucking at.  Fueling a half is more that what do you eat during the run, it also is about what you eat before and to some degree after.

Just have fun with it!
