I have heard about the foam rollers and was looking at them on the internet. Wow! There are a bazillion different kinds- smooth, nubby, long, compact......help!!!!  What do I need?  Would a tennis ball be just as effective on the low back and butt???  Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I started using foam rollers they are great... I started with this one.  Then once my muscles didn't feel it I started with a firmer one. These are the ones they have at my gym.

Hi Kat,

I walked into a sporting goods store and grabbed the only one they had- and I have no complaints!
I wouldn't worry about picking the perfect one, but I quite like my smooth and compact one, so I guess I lucked out.

My relationship is a love / hate with my foam roller. It hurts like he**, but helps sooooooo much! You wont regret it! The gym actually has a PVC Pipe roller that has absolutely no padding on it... Talk about pain. LOL

A tennis ball helps with some things but it hasn't got enough surface area for a lot of what you need to roll out. I use both!
