biking and my butt

ok, I accept that I will eventually get used to the damn saddle, and that bike shorts really help with that.

I'm sitting here today with a throbbing ache in my right butt cheek... not much different than a running type pain in the ass.  But I haven't been running!

Will cycling aggravate muscles that high up?  Is this a form issue or me ramping up too quickly?  I don't have muscle fatigue like I've felt after starting something new, I'm not stiff, so I'm just curious.

any input is welcome!  I'm trying to get into the habit of actual cross training and strengthen my legs up - not make things worse!

Oh I've definitely had glute pain from cycling, esp. after a nasty climb!  Hope you have a roller, or at least can do the seated Pigeon stretch, it will help.

Keep up the hard work!

I'm saving up to buy my first bike this winter.  It will be a nice comfy cruiser.  Triathalons are not in the cards for me anytime soon, but I'm glad I'm so wanted!

Sue, It could be the saddle, and not just what it's made of or how cushy it is.  Cushy isn't necessarily better.

It could be the angle/slope and height and distance from your handlebars.

All of those things can effect how you feel during the ride.

Have you had a bike fitting done?

You actually should feel it in the bigger muscles of the upper leg, hip, but area more than the lower leg.  You want to be pushing with the big muscles.

Your knees should be tracking slightly inward not outward, and you should try to focus on pushing from the big hip/but muscles.

This is good information.  Sadly, I'm just on the stationary at the gym, so I'm obviously dealing with the "one size fits most" variety.  I am trying to remember everything I've learned about bikes here and with John to make sure I adjust my seat height, but after that, nothing I can do.

I'm sure it's just my body saying "um, when did you start biking?".

I had the same kind of ache in my left buttock. I got a re-fit done and the pain went away. Something with my old fit was triggering it and causing the ache
