I ran the inaugural Providence RnR Half in August and I thought they did a pretty good job.  The expo was big, full and worth my time (plenty of race expos just stink).  Despite a day with pouring rain there were packs of cheerleaders on route and I believe all but 1 band played.  Huge variety of music, good route, plenty of refreshments, etc.  The concert at the end was Sugar Ray, and they did a great job and got wet along with those of us who danced around happily in the rain with our free beer.

My complaints:  Provided gear check bags were not plastic, so not protected from the elements. gear check was not covered, so it all got drenched.  One or both of those things should be corrected.  Also, the bag had a red logo on it that bled through onto and through clothing. GOod times.

I loved this race and would Rock N Roll again - though maybe somewhere else. Providence is done in August, and if it weren't for the rain it would have been brutally hot, which is not my thing.  :)

From what I have read on them it really depends on the Local organizers.  RnR Savanah I heard was a great time for all that ran, and Sue seems to have had a good time, but Las Vegas had issues in December.

They were not prepared for the Number that turned out 40K so the aid stations weren't properly supplied and they actually ran out of Finisher Medals.  I think this issue will be unique to Vegas though as the Attraction was you got to run the Las vegas Strip at night under all the lights.  They did have issues with people getting sick and tried to blame it on contaminated water, but anyone from Vegas will tell you DON'T Drink the water!  Again probably unique to other cities.

I have researched them and can see a couple reasons why you may be paying a higher price.  They give out a bunch of Series Medals to finishers once their system flags you as having finished multiple races.

I am planning on doing a couple of them one year Maybe Savanah, Memphis and Vegas  5 pieces of Bling for 3 races not a bad take.

I love this race. It is really well organized. Fairly flat. One long overpass around mile 11. The final run down the boardwalk is incredible. The spectator are special and have a lot of fun. You won't hurt for companions. There are runners all the of all levels. You need to get their early for the start, and parking is tight. Lucky for me, my niece and her husband live in Virginia Beach, and her husband drops me off on his way to his battleship. Virginia Beach is a great place to run in September.

Thank you -- just a few questions:

How crazy is the expo? I would have to drive 8 hours to get there on Saturday but would be staying at a hotel at the beach and for the majority of that week.
Would a lot of the crowd leave after the race you think or would I be better to not vacation there?
It's just me and the awesome hubs... Trying to plan!

Be happy.

The expo is great. Plenty of discounted items, and they handle the crowds fairly well. You need to pick up your packet at the expo. The post-race party is fun, and the crowds definitely dwindle the next day. Just remember it's September so weather can be tricky.
