Exercise--what do you do??

Hey Everyone,

Please share with us what your form of exercise is. For me I knew working out in a gym was never going to work. I just hated the thought of “having" to go to a gym and working out. For many others this is just want they need. The have a personal trainer—great thing to do. I know me and that just didn’t appeal to me.

For me walking was something that didn’t really require a lot of equipment and was something that most anyone can do. This is what I have learned about walking.

“Walk for 45 minutes a day. The reason we’re suggesting 45 minutes instead of the typical 30 is that a Duke University study found that while 30 minutes of daily walking is enough to prevent weight gain in most relatively sedentary people, exercise beyond 30 minutes results in weight and fat loss. Burning an additional 300 calories a day with three miles of brisk walking (45 minutes should do it) could help you lose 30 pounds in a year without even changing how much you’re eating."

I found this information on the Web about walking a long time ago. So I knew I was changing my lifestyle when it came to eating, which means that I could lose a lot more weight if I just walked. It really has worked for me and also relieved stress in my life too. In the winter time, I walk inside a mall. I also swim now and then too.

I would love to hear what you do for exercise. Let’s share some ideas, it might just help others.

Every day, there is a thread posted where people post their workouts for the day. Maybe take a look at those - just go back a couple pages and you'll get a good idea.

I started out walking - its a great form of exercise. Now, I walk, run, bike, spin, swim, and do some group exercise classes along with some resistance/strength training.

If the gym doesnt appeal to you, thats ok, but id recommend getting some resistance bands or free weights to do some strength training as well as walking.

Um, 3 miles of walking burns around 150 net calories, not 300. This makes me wonder about the whole article.

One thing I do know, most people don't do enough exercise so doing 45 min. a day instead of 30 is great. But it's still a bare minimum in my book.

I swim, bike, run and do Crossfit-style strength workouts. Once in a while I go for a walk or go to water aerobics. I like to mix things up and I do most of my workouts outdoors.

Hi Everyone,

After reading all these, I learned that everyone does what works best for them.  I also learned that maybe I should be trying some different things.  So that is my goal for me this year.  Mix it up a LOT more.  Thanks for all your comments.

Have a great new year.  Remember only you can change your life, we can support you and give you suggestion, but in the end it takes a BIG effort on your part.

Hugs,
Suzanne

I started out with Leslie Sansone's videos.  Love her!  She has 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 mile workouts.  Each mile is equal to about 15 minutes.  I also go to the gym and typically do the bike, treadmill and weights.  When I get down to about 200 #s, I want to try the ellpitical machine.  I was also walk for about 30 to 45 minutes at a local track once a week.  I just try to mix it up.
