going to an event totally/most unprepared
Hi Goofy, I'm talking to you.
Sounds like many of us are not where we'd like to be in our training. And no, I don't mean the usual "omg, I'm totally not ready!" panic attack before ANY event that most of us have... but the legit "I haven't run more than 6 miles in two months and I'm supposed to run a marathon in 2 weeks" kind of unprepared.
I know I'm not the only one in this situation. So, flights are booked, registration fees paid, and I'm injured and not ready. but I'm GOING. My expectations: different than I planned, for sure!
I'm going to go. I'm going to have fun. I'm going to meet some OH people! I'm gonna run/walk my way through this event best I can. it's going to hurt, it's going to be hard, I'm not going to run most of the way. But I'm going to DO IT.
Attitude is everything. I'm not PRing. It's unrealistic to even pretend I could, and it would be foolish to try. and that's OK. Whether I run all 39.3 miles, skip them, or walk sideways, I'm DOING IT. In a million years, pre-surgery, I would have gone to Disney to EAT my way through the Kingdom, certainly not participate in a timed athletic event.
And that, folks, is winning.

Sue,
I sooo much like that attitude. We all had surgeries for different reasons, but the end result is that we wanted to put some fun and activity back into our lives. Going down their to have fun sounds like an awesome idea.
Enjoy.

Thanks, Jay! I love a good PR and working hard and competition, but I guess I needed to put this out there to remind myself that sometimes due to a lot of reasons, we're going to get out there and do something for other reasons than "better than last time".

Sue, I'm right there with you.
I'm planning to do this on grit, determination and fun.
For me it will be a PR because I have never done a Marathon before, so whatever I do will be a record for me.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone that is going to be there.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!

I'm going but I'm not doing the marathon. I haven't run in 6 weeks and I am no where near starting to run again. I am not risking my brain by doing 26.2 miles when I can't even get through the day without a headache.
This is the first time I've had to deal with this situation. Yes, I had injuries to deal with for both my IMs but I knew I could get through them (and I did). But at this point, if I can't get to the point where I'm running at all, I'm not even going to be doing the HM. In fact, I'm worried about the whole trip because just running around the theme parks may be too much for me.

Knowing your limits is really important, I'm glad you are planning to keep it "mellow", as if tackling 13 miles is a small accomplishment!
I hope the headahces quit!
And thank you for reminding me that I need to call my doctor about some pain meds..

This reminds me... I was at a party yesterday and one of the trainers from my gym was there. I mentioned the Goofy and how I was "only" going to do the HM and she was so impressed that I could talk about a HM with the phrase "just". It reminded me of how far I've come!
