How much exercise should I be getting in a day/week?
Hi I am 6 months out (short of a week) and I want to know how much exercise should I be getting in per week or per day? I want to push this weight loss thing to the limit and I havent been exercising on a consistent basis which is my next goal, to get in some form of exercise for at least 15 to 30 minutes a day. Let me know what you guys think?
there really is no RIGHT answer to this question...it depends on ability and goal. If it's easier to do something every day, then try that. Otherwise, i think my standard answer would be to work towards 30 min of cardio 3 days/week, and then reassess once you've achieved that.

I make a point to get up from my desk and walk 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile twice daily - 10 to 15 minutes at a brisk pace. I don't really consider it a workout, per se, but it's just some extra movement in my day. It helps to clear my head, and I find I"m more productive for it. I started that almost immediately post-op, and it became a habit even in the hottest part of the summer, here. Beyond that I 'work out.'
My surgeon recomends (working up to) 1 hour of cardio a minimum of 4 days a week plus 2 days of strength training. Your surgeon's office may have an exercise physiologist who consults to help patients develop a program. Mine does. I meet with him every three months to assess my progress, body composition, etc. I would see what resources are available to you for free (or already paid for) through your program.
I hope that helps.

As much as you want!
I think people should get at least 30 minutes a day. That's a bare minimum to enjoy good health and reduce risk of heart attacks, etc.
But I do about 6-8 hours a week minimum during the winter and do about 10 hour most of the time and for at least 2 months out of a year that goes up to 15 hours. That's because I do a lot of long runs and bike rides and swims and they just take a while. :D
