LOL. I just got yelled at on the RNY forum. Some one posted was I bad because I ate something my doctor told me not to 5 weeks out, and I said not for eating it but why you ate it. She said she ate it because she was depressed and needed the food for comfort.

So I got yelled at when I told her the reason she ate was what was wrong. I don't know why I go back into that forum. The majority of people on it just make excuses for themselves.

Its not just the RNY forum. There was a post on the VSG forum about eating pre-work snacks, and a "vet" made a snarky comment about anyone who eats pre-workout snacks cannot possibly be serious about weight loss. SMH.

And of course all the posts about eating drive thru at 5 days post op and all sorts of bizarre crap that makes my head hurt.

Seems like online forums like this - people just want the sugar coated version, and run from the truth.

You can keep your metal as long as you keep your carbs under 40/day! Oh wait...that might require you to become a couch potato lol.

lol, I am sure the "vet" would have a heart attack is she saw what we ate during and before Ironman training days and the actual event!  :)  I stopped going on those boards years ago, literally.  They were a good help to get some early needed info, but the surgery wars, and overall silliness makes them not a place to hang for continued long term support - certainly not the way this board is.  I would not be who I am today with out this board, I can say that quite seriously.

amen, brother!

this board knows that carbs are good for you!!  I'm sure I'd be dead if it weren't for giving in to that wisdom!  No one wants to see a carb deprived runner!!

Heck, they'd probably have a heart attack if they knew what I ate on a daily basis!  LOL

I never post to those stupid what are you eating threads because

1. I don't need to hear the backlash and
2. I think most people are lying on those threads!  I'm sorry but posting that you ate 4 green beans and 2 oz of chicken for dinner at 2 + years out?  Give me a break!

There is no way I could survive on 1000 calories a day for the rest of my life and be able to enjoy my life.  I LOVE to exercise and I love the fact that by exercising I can eat like a relatively normal person. I'm NOT afraid of carbs like so many post ops seem to be, but I do try to make smart choices in my carbs and stick to complex carbs whenever possible.

My downfall has always been sweets, cakes, pastries etc... So I've learned to bake myself so that I can have my sugar free treats in moderation.

That said I just have to share this recipe with you, I found it the other day and it is simply awesome! All natural ingredients, no sugar/sweeteners!  Next time I make it I'll add some protien powder to up the protein content.

Adapted from here:

Peanut Butter & Banana Chocolate Chunk Cookies

3 large, very ripe bananas
1/2 cup all-natural (just peanuts) peanut butter, or almond butter - I used Natural Almond Butter
1/4 cup canola oil - I used 2 tablespoons olive oil and replaced the rest with apple sauce, I think you could probably replace it all with apple sauce
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 cups old-fashioned (large flake) or quick oats
1/3 cup shredded coconut
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 – 1 cup chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips - I replaced this with raisins, I imagine Craisins or adding nuts would be good too!

Preheat oven to 350F.

In a large bowl mash the bananas with the peanut butter, oil and vanilla. In another bowl stir together the oats, coconut, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients along with the chocolate and stir until combined.

Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a parchment or Silpat lined baking sheet, or one that is sprayed with nonstick spray, and bake for 12-14 minutes, until just set.  I found that I needed to bake mine for 20 minutues.

Makes about 2 1/2 dozen cookies. - my recipe made 28 cookies.

"posting that you ate 4 green beans and 2 oz of chicken for dinner at 2 + years out? "

That's a typical lunch for me and I'm 3+ years out. There's something about dense protein that I just can't eat a lot of. It's actually a problem for me because it's not enough calories. I usually end up eating a second "lunch" 1-2 hours later when there's room again.

I wonder if that's because you had a VSG?  I have no problem with dense protein, steak especially I could easily eat 8 oz or more, but I don't!

I can eat a crap load of veggies, cooked or raw as well.  So I make sure to measure my food always and I rarely feel full but I'm generally satisfied.

From what I can tell, people with RnY and lapband can typically eat a cup of food at a time but VSG is more like half a cup. DS varies. A lot of the recent ones have a sleeve as small as is typical for VSG but a lot don't.
