Got some riding shorts! Question...

So I went to Sports Chalet and got some riding shorts. I will wear them under my running pants for the Duathlon (to the death). I am 4 years out and still think I am bigger than I am. I bought a large and was contemplating getting the XL... so I get home, put the large on and it's actually a little big. Not too big where I want to go back and exchange them, but they aren't tight. Why is it that sometimes we still see ourselves or still feel obese?

Anyway, my question is do you guys run with your padded biking shorts on? Just walking in them it seems like it might feel weird or a little uncomfortable to go running in them. Just thought I'd ask.

Actually I purchased a pair of TRI shorts with some padding, but not as much as bike shorts. I run in them all the time and they feel great. I think if I ran in bike shorts I would chafe in the nether regions.

In response to your question about why we still think of ourselves as big, its a great question. I lay in bed sometimes thinking about my current weight and almost always I put a two as the hundred point instead of a one. I am not sure that will ever go away.

Enjoy the duathlon and the bike. Looking forward to hearing more from you in the months to come.

It's Jan 7th at Folsom Lake. Free event! Fundraiser for Girls on the Run.

I did a lil brick this morning. rode close to 7 mi and then ran 1 mi. legs were super wobbly but felt great! Biking shorts felt ok to run in.

Same thing as Jay said, I will run in tri shorts, but I couldn't imagine running in bike shorts since the pad feels like a diaper. See if you can invest in some tri shorts before the DU, its also a good investment to own both

I too am guilty of seeing myself larger than I really am. When I got my professional pics from ironman, I told hubby, "I'm looking a little thin in these pics" and he said "that's how you always look" in my mind I think I am borderline overweight, but in reality I am not.

Totally agree with what Jay and Jillian said. It's great to have both bike shorts (for when you're just doing the bike thing) and a pair of Tri shorts for when you are doing both. I did my first Du back in August and wore Tri's (Pearl Izumi) with no problems going from run-bike-run. Man... that second run is definitely a bit wobbly for the first mile.

You're going to do great! The Du (Minneapolis Duathlon) was my absolute favorite race to date. Have fun!!
