Stay away from any weight lifting, ab workouts and anything strenuous. My doc advised me to either walk or ride my bike for the first month.

That's way to soon in my opinion. Even if you feel great, you just had major surgery, can probably not drink too much, and are definitely not able to eat very much. I think most docs dont advise strenuous exercise until about 6 weeks, especially lifting b/c of the risk of hernias and such.

At 15 days, I could barely manage to get my butt to work and sit for 4 hours a day. At 6 weeks, i could walk quickly, but I didnt get the energy for strenuous exercise until about 3 months out when I could eat more than 500 cal a day.

I know this is not the right forum for this - but im a little shocked that you are 2 weeks out eating 800 calories. IS this according to your surgeon's plan?

Most of us aren't doctors.  This is DEFINITELY a question for your surgeon, in my opinion.  I was told to walk for the first 4 weeks.

At 6 weeks I started some light weight lifting and didn't feel strong enough. I waited to 8 weeks and still ended up with a hernia from it.

I was cleared for the gym at 10 days... but only light work, nothing close to what happens with a trainer! At about 6wks I started back with my personal trainer and was still exhausted, but I have increased my stamina over the weeks.
Remember - your body is trying to use those calories and proteins for healing from a traumatic surgery. Any strenuous workout will take away from the healing process and just put you longer in the recovery mode.

I was cleared to do whatever I wanted at 3 weeks out... except lifting, of course. I found that anything that stressed my core was out until I was 2 months out but I was riding the stationary bike at the gym and walking at 2 weeks and I started running at 1 month out.
