Dallas White Rock Half Marathon Report.
Got to the hotel about 1:00P on Saturday. Checked in and took the shuttle over to the Expo.
It was good. Picked up stuff for me and two friends did a little shopping and went back to the hotel to watch the Baylor Bears beat the Texas Longhorns!
Took in the pasta dinner at the hotel. The benefactor at the race is the Scottish Rite Hospital. They treat children's orthepedic issues without charging the families anything. The race raised a $1,000,000 for the hospital.
Woke up about three to get ready. It had rained all night and the wind was out of the north. Had 1/2 of a subway sandwich left over from the night before. Bad idea. Gave me indigestion for a little while
Rode the shuttle over to the fair grounds. Wore my designer trash bag and give away running clothes to try to stay warm and dry. Huddled in the colesium until 7:45 and then went over to find the corrall. As we started moving toward the start I took off my jacket and hung on the fence. All the clothes are collected and donated to charity. It wasn't five minutes later that it started raining! So I picked up someones disgarded pancho and wore it to the start.
It took us 20 minutes to get to the starting line from my corrall. It was much smoother than it was last year.
As we started running it rained harder and harder. There were deep puddles across some of the roads. Running part went well. I wanted to average 9:45/mile the first nine miles and open it up after that. The final miles are basically down hill. First time I had a plan that actually worked. The only issue was when I decided to take my two Endurolytes, I figured out that the capsules do not really like the rain and had disentagrated in the pocket of my belt. Oh well, you live and learn.
Ran it in 2:07 and felt real good about it.
Thanks for everyone's support.
