I went to school in Davis, and it's a great place for bike riding. You can cruise around downtown area or head out from Davis to Winters or Woodland. Fortunately it's very flat so you can get used to riding before dealing with any hills.

Just get out there and start practicing. You use different leg muscles when  you ride, so when your hopping off your bike and start running you are in for a shock.  I do six dus every year now. You are not going to be riding with others so don't worry about that part. Drafting is not allowed in a du. If you are borrowing a bike, make sure you practice on that bike before the event. Good luck.

"in for a shock"... I don't know if I like the sound of that!! I think tomorrow I am going to go for a 4mi ride, then run 2mi. Thanks!

this sounds like a really fun distance to do your first, if you have done 5k's.  7 miles isn't so much even on a cruiser :)  you can do it with some basic preparations!  It will be a lot of fun and you will be hooked, I promise!

Sounds like a blast!

I know sounds strange coming from me but don't freak out and just have fun with it.  If you have the run down don't sweat the bike portion.  You might want to do a couple small bricks where you bike a few miles then go straight into the run since your muscles tend to want to work different.

Other than that totally go for it.  Heck if I was in that area I would so jump on something like this.

Thanks, Paul. I know once this is under my belt I am going to feel so good, but it's just the leading up to it part.

You don't even have to put yourself into a race position, just ride the ride.
if you live near the event, go out and ride it before the event.
Get used to the course see what it's like.  That's one of the great benefits of living close to the event.

Eliminate any of that uncertainty you have.

You will do great.
