What to wear...?

Im doing a little triathlon next weekend. Im not sure what to wear for the swim. I have some tri shorts, but not a top. Its an OWS, the water temp is around 75 and so its not really worth a wet suit (its a very short swim).

Do people wear swim suits and just add shorts and a top after the swim? It short enough that i dont think it would bother me to keep a swim suit on to finish the bike/run, but im not sure.

Does events usually provide towels to dry off, or do you bring one as part of your transition stuff, or do you just air dry? I feel clueless as how all of this works together. Im trying this short tri to see if its something im going to like, but for now, im a little nervous figuring out all the non swim-bike-run components

Thanks for your help!

I actually have no answer to your question.....

but congrats on doing a triathlon!  Damn, you're putting me to shame.  Kudos for you.

I would use my sports bra in the swim and then throw on a top in transition. I wouldn't go with the swimsuit. I think it will be harder to put bike shorts and jersey on over a swimsuit than wear tri shorts and throw just the top on.

If you want to dry off, you need to bring your own towel.

I only dry off my feet and only if they are covered in gook that I don't want inside my socks though. But then I also have a tri top so I don't have to get dry enough to get a shirt on.

Getting a shirt on when wet is a PITA. You might want to invest in a tri top -- you can use them for running when it's hot. Or maybe one of your workout tops is close fitting and will dry fast and you can wear that in the water. I have some compression tops that I've worn in the swim and they worked just fine.

Also, there are a ton of videos on YouTube that give you tips for the two transitions. I found them very helpful when I was first starting out.

I'll see if I can find something on clearance as far a top goes. Id go in my sports bra but I think they might kick me out if I do that (lol jk but it would be a horrendous sight to see).

Thank you for the advice!

Ditto to what Marie said! Trying to put on clothes on a wet body is an absolute nightmare! Try doing it in one of your workouts this week and you will see. I would def go with the Tri shorts and a Tri top. You can prob find some crazy good deals on sleeveless tops now that the season is over and it is winter. Check out one of your local bike shops and see if they have and good deals on their clearance rack... Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!

 Awesome!

And you can bike or run in it if you find out you don't like triathlons so it's an investment, right? :D

I actually wore it for a run today. It rolls up a little at the bottom, but i think it will be fine.

Since Im still rapidly losing weight, im sure it will be a good workout top for a month or two I definitely wont be doing any more triathlons until im closer to my goal weight and not changing sizes every month.

So glad you were able to find a tri-top, its the only way to go. Mine ride up a little on me when running, but I just deal with it, guess it just comes with us having extra skin
