Anyone ever have a concussion?

I am very frustrated right now. I have not run in 4 weeks. 3 of those have been spent getting and recovering from a concussion. I have been told by everyone that it is a very bad idea to workout untili I stop getting headaches. I am supposed to wait until I have been headache free for 24 hours before I work out.

So last Saturday I was able to do my first workout. I did a small and easy bike ride. I got a headache!

If that happens, you are supposed to go back to not working out until you are headache free for 24 hours. It's a week later and that has not happened. I've gotten close a few days but not close enough.

What I am wondering is:

-if you've had a concussion, how long did it take you to stop having headaches?

-if you have taken more than a month off running, how fast did you ramp up back to your volume before you stopped running? I know I can't just pick up where I left off, but I'm wondering how far to step back and how fast to ramp back up since recovering fitness is often easier than gaining it the first time.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. I've had a couple of concussions in college from playing Rugby, but I didn't have headaches beyond a couple of days. And if memory serves, I didn't miss any games. Wish I had more insight for you.
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

The first doctor said that they've learned from studying football players that it's a bad idea to send someone immediately back into the game if they've had a head injury and I did hope back on my bike and ride another 22 (or so) miles!

I suspect that's why I'm still getting headaches.

The other thing is that I tend to get them this time of year anyway. So I'm going to go back on my "allergy" medicine and be more aggressive about the NSAIDs and see if that helps.

I have had two concussions. One from a car accident, and the other (more recently) from getting hook kicked in the head at karate class.

Both times I was told not to go to sleep for several hours afterwards, but no one said anything to me about not exercising and/or headaches. I had a miserable headache for two days after the most recent concussion but then it was gone.

Hope you get a resolution soon. I can see how the headaches could be totally allergy related, too - I have that constantly right now.
