for a 5k, you don't really need to do anything extraordinary for nutrition. just make sure you eat a normal breakfast and hydrate well (you may want to avoid extra fiber/fats the night before and for breakfast if you have any gastro issues). when you start getting into events/workouts that are well over an hour, you should have a formal nutrition plan that includes fueling during the event/workout.
don't forget to hydrate and get some carbs/protein in post race for recovery.
