Rent Disney Vacation Club Points for April 2012 and receive up to $300 in Disney Gift Cards!

Hurry, you must book this offer by December 1, 2011!

There's a great way to save on deluxe accommodations at Walt Disney World: renting Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points. DVC members own timeshare "points" that they can use for stays at Disney Vacation Club resorts. Sometimes owners are unable to use the points, so they will "rent" them to others.

Renting DVC points directly through an owner can be difficult and problematic (click here to learn more about that), but now there's a very easy, completely safe way to rent DVC points: through David's Vacation Club Rentals.

David charges $13 per point, which is a bargain. But if you're interested in vacationing in April of 2012, you can receive even more through this EXCLUSIVE offer for MouseSavers Newsletter subscribers.

Through this special link, receive a Disney Gift Card when you rent and pay for a 1 week (7 night) stay in a Deluxe Disney Vacation Club Villa from David's Vacation Club Rentals (subject to room availability).

For example, you will receive a:

  • $50 Disney Gift Card with any full week in April 2012 in a Studio Villa.
  • $100 Disney Gift Card with any full week in April 2012 in a 1 Bedroom Villa.
  • $150 Disney Gift Card with any full week in April 2012 in a 2 Bedroom Villa.
  • $300 Disney Gift Card with any full week in April 2012 in a Grand Villa.

*New reservations only. Must be requested through the special link. 7 night rental required. Must be booked and paid for by December 1, 2011. Travel between 4/1/12 - 4/30/12. Must book a Studio, 1 Bedroom Villa, 2 Bedroom Villa or Grand Villa. (Sorry, Value rooms at Animal Kingdom Villas, Standard rooms at Boardwalk Villas and Treehouse Villas not available). $91.00 part payment required at time of request (refunded if your dates/resorts are not available). Limited quantities. Allow 6-8 weeks for processing of the Disney gift card. 1 gift card per reservation.

Grocery Delivery at Walt Disney World

If you won't have a car while on vacation -- or you just don't want to spend your vacation in the supermarket -- a company called Garden Grocer can do your shopping for you and deliver the groceries to your Orlando-area hotel. If you plan to buy more than 2 or 3 grocery items during your stay, using this shopping service will probably save you a substantial amount of money compared with buying food from hotel convenience stores.

My sister-in-law used Garden Grocer and was very happy with the service. Garden Grocer has exact products and prices on its web site, which she found easier and more convenient than having to specify every single item, size and brand (as a competing grocery delivery company requires). Garden Grocer has a minimum order of $40. There is a $12 delivery fee on smaller orders, but delivery is FREE if your order is over $200. Tipping the delivery person is at your discretion.

Joyful Celebrations and Timeless Traditions Delight Guests at Walt Disney World

It’s the month before Christmas and throughout Mickey’s house, the trees are all glowing, bringing smiles to The Mouse. Choirs are singing, bakers taking great care, sounds and smells of the season are filling the air…

At Walt Disney World in 2011, it begins to look a lot like Christmas as early as November 8. Santa’s elves bedazzle every corner of the Vacation Kingdom for a seasonal spectacle filled with heartwarming stage productions, enchanting parades, garlands and wreaths, millions of sparkling lights and even the first flakes of winter.

And with a ho, ho, whole lot of cheer being spread over more than a month, guests have more choice as to when they join in the magical, one-of-a-kind celebration.

Magic Kingdom

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party – On 19 special nights, holiday revelers can delight during this cheery, family-friendly event. Party-goers embrace the joys of the season – sipping cocoa, catching a “snowflake" and enjoying merry shows, fireworks, carolers and special character meet and greets.

Castle Dream Lights – Each evening of the season, Cinderella Castle shimmers with lights brought to beaming brightness during a ceremonial show performed at dusk. Beginning November 4 and continuing through January 3, 2012, Cinderella and favorite Disney characters decked out in festive holiday garb take center stage and magically transform Cinderella Castle into an ice palace draped with 200,000 ice cycle-white lights.

The Magic, The Memories and You! – The nightly light show on Cinderella Castle gets in “the spirit" throughout the holidays with a special segment that wraps the Magic Kingdom landmark in colorful bows and boughs, gift paper and ribbons, ornaments, candy stripes and multi-colored strands of lights… and gingerbread.

Epcot

Candlelight Processional – An inspirational retelling of the Christmas story accompanied by a mass choir and 50-piece live orchestra punctuates the reason for the season during this time-honored Epcot tradition.

Holidays Around the World - Throughout World Showcase, international storytellers share traditions and tales from their homeland. Strolling along the promenade during the Holidays around the World celebration may put you face-to-face with the good-hearted witch La Befana, known in Italy for filling children’s shoes with treats, or the jolly gift-bearer Father Christmas in the United Kingdom. There are meet and greets with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the American Adventure, plus other legendary icons who share messages of goodwill. The celebrations of Kwanzaa and Hanukkah are celebrated as well.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights – Entering the Hollywood Studios backlot, guests discover a virtual city of lights. On, over and among the cityscape buildings are millions of dazzling bulbs, dancing lights and animated displays synchronized to high-energy holiday tunes at Disney’s Hollywood Studios November 10-January 7, 2012. The spectacle will not be operational December 8.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade – King Louie and Baloo lead a rousing musical cavalcade – safari style – through the park from November 10 to January 3, 2012, during Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade. The wild side of Disney’s Animal Kingdom blends with a playful spirit of the holidays as Chip & Dale, stilt walkers and savannah friends dance alongside decorative floats at 4 pm daily.

Santa Goofy’s Holiday Village at Camp Minnie-Mickey has decked the halls big time with festive décor. A perfectly trimmed Christmas tree adorned with animal crafted ornaments welcomes guests at the park’s entrance. Carolers spread holiday cheer and Santa Goofy and friends greet guests for photo opportunities.

Downtown Disney

With dozens of shops that stretch from the Marketplace to the West Side (and plenty of taste-bud-tempting treats!), Downtown Disney is a shopper’s delight. There are one-of-a-kind boutiques, plus enough toys, games, character merchandise, and costumes to fill Santa’s sleigh.

School choirs and bands often perform at the dock stage to ring in the season. Kids can pose for pictures and sit with Santa Claus, November 19 – December 24, 2011.

Resort Hotels

Disney resort hotels are dressed up for the holidays, offering an ideal home-away-from-home during the season. An intricate, life-size gingerbread house cooked up by Walt Disney World pastry chefs is a must-see at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. The yummy sugar shack is baked with 1,050 pounds of honey, 600 pounds of powdered sugar, 35 pounds of spices and more. It even has a chimney that puffs out delicious cinnamon smoke.

A magnificent gingerbread carousel complete with chocolate and soft-candy ponies and oversized candy-cane poles takes center stage at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. Other hotels are spruced up with wreaths and trees decorated with miles of garland, ribbon and glistening ornaments. Check each hotel for holiday dining offerings and special entertainment.

Walt Disney World Sends 2011 out with a Bang

New Year’s Eve is one of the biggest fireworks evenings of the year at Walt Disney World, a place where fireworks are both spectacular and an every-night occurrence. Fireworks and nighttime shows will light up the skies and create a mood of celebration at three theme parks on December 31, 2011, while revelry of other sorts takes place elsewhere throughout the Vacation Kingdom.

Here’s a snapshot of what’s in store:

  • Magic Kingdom presents a double helping of pyrotechnics: Wishes nighttime spectacular with a holiday overlay at 8:30 pm and Fantasy in the Sky at 11:51 pm.

  • Epcot‘s IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth delights revelers with a salute to the new year at 7 pm and 11:42 pm.

  • At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the 25-minute spectacular Fantasmic! that combines water, fire, lights, lasers, fireworks and music will be presented at 6:30 pm and 8 pm, with the popular Lights! Camera! Happy New Year! fireworks display at midnight.

  • At Cirque du Soleil, all guests attending the December 31 performances will receive a limited-edition Walt Disney World/Cirque trading pin. Shows are at 6 pm and 9 pm.

  • Registered guests at select Disney resort hotels will be treated to music and entertainment. At Narcoosee’s restaurant (Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa), for instance, there will be a four-course dining experience for $149, plus DJ, balloon artist and special fireworks viewing at 8:30 pm and 11:51 pm.

  • Atlantic Dance Hall at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort offers a special-ticket New Year’s Eve party from 8 pm-2 am with video DJ Tony Zapulla.

Exotics Course at Walt Disney World® Speedway will be New Home to “Supercars"

Combine some of the world’s finest automobiles with a track specifically designed for drivers to safely experience their awe-inspiring acceleration, speed and handling and you have Exotic Driving Experience, the latest offering at the Walt Disney World Speedway.

Exotic Driving Experience will feature supercars by Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi, and Porsche. Future plans include the addition of other exotic models, as well. The recently completed interior road course-style section at the track, specifically created for Exotic Driving Experience, features a series of quick, challenging right and left-hand turns, known as “switch backs." Complete with barriers and rumble strips, this section replaces the frontstretch of the oval when the supercars are on track and, together with the backstretch, comprises another one-mile layout which has been named The Exotics Course at Walt Disney World Speedway®.

It will officially begin on January 16, 2012. Driving Experiences will start at $189 for six laps around the circuit. Thrill Rides with a professional driver at the wheel will be available for $99. Reservations for 2012 can be made online or by calling 815-822-0149.

Small World Vacations LogoSue Says: You’re Invited to a Party at Your Walt Disney World Resort!

By Sue Pisaturo, Owner of Small World Vacations

Most Walt Disney World Guidebooks recommend that you leave the theme parks and return to your Disney hotel for a relaxing mid-day break. If taking a nap is not on your agenda, get ready to party, because there is music and dancing at the main pool every afternoon. Discover a world of entertaining family activities including bingo, karaoke, hula hoop contests, relay races, scavenger hunts, trivia challenges, chalk art, pin trading and a pitchburst (a dunkless dunk tank). And the fun doesn’t stop when the sun sets! Nearly every resort offers a nightly campfire and outdoor Disney movies under the stars. (All activities are subject to change.)

When you check in at your Disney resort, ask for the Recreation Activities Schedule for a list of what is going on each day. It is published monthly and not available prior to arrival. Enjoy games and crafts for a few hours before a DJ gets the pool party started at around 3:00 pm. (If you prefer more sedate sunbathing, ask a Disney Cast Member for advice on a quiet spot to lounge.)

If you are staying at some of the Disney Vacation Club resorts (Old Key West, Animal Kingdom Villas, BoardWalk Villas, Saratoga Springs or Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary), stop by the Community Hall. Here you will find an array of activities including computers, Wii, table games, DVD and sport equipment rentals, books and kid-friendly crafts. The majority of things to do are free, but there may be a nominal charge for certain art projects. You don’t have to be a DVC member to participate. It’s a great way to spend a rainy afternoon and make new friends too!

There is so much to do you may need to plan a separate itinerary just for your Disney Resort!

Here is a list of some unique recreational activities at the Walt Disney World Resort hotels (note that some require a fee for participation):

  • Fort Wilderness: Archery, Horseback Riding, Segway Tour, Petting Zoo, Wagon or Carriage Ride

  • Wilderness Lodge: Hidden Mickey Tour, Magic Cookie Hour, Architecture Tour, Steam Train Talk

  • Contemporary: Cabana Rental, Pirates and Pals Fireworks Cruise, Beer Tasting, Parasailing

  • Animal Kingdom Lodge: Nighttime Animal Viewing, Wine Tasting, Storytelling, Cookie Decorating

  • Riverside: Fishing Hole, Bikes, Carriage Rides, Pirate Adventure, Ferry to Downtown Disney

  • Beach & Yacht Club: Volleyball, Tennis, Fireworks Cruises, Ceramics, Pirate Adventure

  • Polynesian: Hula Lessons, Pool Cabanas, Ceremonial Torch Lighting, Electric Water Parade

  • Grand Floridian: Wonderland Tea Party, Pirate Adventure Cruise, Fireworks Cruises, Wii Party

Small World Vacations agents have stayed at or toured every Disney resort, so we can answer your questions about the rooms, pools, transportation, dining, recreation, atmosphere and amenities. Read Agent Kathy’s blog about her experience at the Disney Resort Pool Party.

Great Ways to Save on a Trip to Southern California

Did you know that MouseSavers.com provides discount information about major attractions in Southern California besides Disneyland? It's true! There is in-depth information about how to save at more than ten non-Disney attractions.

Perhaps the most useful page of all, for those who are planning a "grand tour" of multiple Southern California attractions, is the page on multi-attraction passes. There you'll find a chart that helps you figure out which passes will allow you to visit the attractions that interest you most.

  • The most popular multi-attraction pass for shorter visits is the Southern California CityPass, which for 2011 includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Bonus Ticket (includes one Early Entry to Disneyland), 1-day admission to Universal Hollywood, 1-day admission to SeaWorld San Diego and 1-day admission to the San Diego Zoo OR San Diego Zoo Safari Park. (In 2012, the Southern California CityPass will not include the Zoo or Safari Park.)

  • If you are planning to see a lot of attractions in San Diego and Los Angeles, the Go San Diego Card gives you admission to over 50 San Diego and Southern California attractions, museums and tours, including SeaWorld San Diego (with select cards), Legoland, Sea Life Aquarium, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, Knott's Berry Farm, The Hollywood Museum and lots more.
