BUILDING YOUR ENDURANCE

I was wondering how to build my endurance up.  I try to jog and make it about a hundred yards or more and I'm completely out of breath.  I would love to be able to make it at least a mile without stopping but I can't.  I'm down to 255 pounds and I feel great but when I run I'm out of breath.  Need Help please!!!

Have you been doing any kind of cardio workouts?

Maybe try walking to start - increase your distance, and then increase your speed over time until you've built up some stamina and endurance.

For me what endurance I have came by just doing it.  Being persistant in my training and pushing a bit harder each time.

To begin with you need to start slow and build up you system to sustain a faster pace, as frustrating as this is for some of us (ME!).  Have you tried the C25K program or some other interval trianing?  I don't think anyof us went out and BAM ran a mile muchless a 5K for some it took weeks or months of work to reach this accomplishment, which is one reason so few of us will ever forget our first race of a distance.

So the short answer is you get endurance by working for it.

I second what Paul had to say.

I thought that when I lost the weight, I would just be able to do it.
I was wrong.  It still took a lot of work and effort.

Even if you can only jog a few yards, can you walk a bit & try another few yards?  With anything, you have to start somewhere.  I do not jog, but can walk very quickly for long stretches (three miles is what I try to do on a regular basis).  My exercise of choice has been swimming.  I remember doing 500 meters before calling my exercise done.  It took me two years to be able to now swim two hours without stopping - my best distance (just three times to date) is 6000 meters or 3.278 miles.

Start by doing as much as you can with alternating walking, and in time you will see your endurance building!
