Treadmill
Anybody notice how funky the treadmill really is.
I had to run on it again last night, and it just isn't right. It in no way resembles my running when outside.
Here is what I mean. If I set the machine for 5 mph with a 1% incline, it feels like I'm running at over 6 mph because my turnover is faster on the treadmill. My stride when outside is longer than what I can do on the treadmill, so I have to take a lot more little steps on the treadmill and it makes it feel like I'm running with a lot more effort. I also find that I end up against the bar. It also seems like I'm on it for much longer than what the timer says.
If I drop the incline down less than 1% it feels like I'm running downhill which makes for a terrible workout because I'm not being challenged.
I need to find a treadmill with an extra long running platform.
And the eliptical actually causes me more discomfort than the treadmill or running outside. It doesn't feel like a natural movement and it causes discomfor in my hips.
Anyhow, just some random thoughts.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
i do a majority of my training on the TM, it took some time to get used to, but now i prefer it for my runs of an hour or less. i also use 1.0% incline, i notice a slight performace increase on the TM vs. running outside, for me, it's mostly due to the hills outside vs. the constantly flat TM.
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.
