Boy do I look stupid trying to do trackstand starts.  Any tips on how to do these??  I start to freak out as I go backwards.  I saw some info on YouTube...But I guess, like anything else, I'll have to practice.

Why are you doing them? Are you going to do track racing?

I had no idea what they were until I looked it up as well.

I can probably say that it is easier with wider tires.  Used to do these on BMX bikes when I was a kid all the time.  I can see where if you have a road or tri bike with ultra narrow tires it is going to be a lot harder as you balance and control of balance will need to be substantially more.

The one place I see them used on road bikes is at stop lights and stop signs so you don't have to unclip, but then again you can tell the guys have been doing it for ages as they make it look effotless.

Works better if you have a real track bike.  You trying to do it with something else?

I was stopped at a traffic light once with a guy who was in a track stand the entire time. On a road bike. It felt like 5 minutes but was probably more like 2 or 3.

I was definitely impressed.

Thanks for the input.  No special reasons...Read about them in Bicycling Magazine.  They look easy to do...But are a lot harder in real life.
Don't know if this link will work, but it looks really cool...

Yep, he is doing it on a track bike where you can make the bike go back and forth easily.  Much harder with a free wheel bike but do-able...not by me.  LOL
