Early AM workout - when/what to eat?

I am pre-op but not yet doing the 2 week liquid thing (that starts Nov. 8).   I am getting up at 5 AM and hitting the gym around 5:20.   By the time I get back home from my very short workout I feel kind of shaky and am starving.   Should I be eating or drinking something before I go?  Could it be a low blood sugar thing because I am excercising at the end of a 7-8 hour overnight fast?

I usually try to have a bagel w/ peanut butter thirty minutes early.
Sounds like you are running on fumes by the time you finish.

Good luck on your surgery!!

i typically get up @ 4 am or 4:15 and eat a breakfast of whole wheat toast w/ reduced fat PB and honey, coffee, plus a non-fat yogurt.  i eat it in the car on the way to the gym which is a 1/2 hour drive.  that usually keeps me going for the workout.  i then eat a protein bar with plenty of fluids directly after the workout.
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Thanks y'all. Sounds like I need to have a little protien and carb before going. It seems so obvious yet it never occurred to me.  Doh!

Thanks again for the help!
