I'm buring more calories than the program calls for me to eat. Adjust recommendations?

As I expected I am already trying to make sure I stay smart regarding exercise and calories.  This is especially true in the very early phase.  So...

Take today as an example.  On an average day with only walking as my exercise I am targeting 700-800 cal.  Today's bike ride was around 1100 cals.

Of course, 1 theory is WOW...BONUS loss.  As long as I don't push hard and don't feel weak, don't do anything to make up the calories.  The other is to make some concessions and maybe split the difference.  At least don't end up in negative territory.

Your thoughts on how I should work through these kinds of numbers?

In early phases don't worry about or track your calories.  Follow your doctors protocol and things will be fine.  I was at 600-800 calories for the first 8 months then went to 1200 it wasn't until almost 1 year post op that I really started addressing the calorie deficit.

For me 1 reason was that by focusing on protein and protein goals I was getting what my body needed.  If I had to add meals it made it harder to get my fluids.

Believe in the process and you will do great.

The good news is that I am able to get the fluids in fairly easy so I can bump those up as exercise dictates.  I am tracking my food and still concentrate on proteins.  I shoot for 80-90g protein a day and then add 10-20 on my heavier workout days.  Getting 120-150 oz of water is not too hard to match.

Even with that my calories barely exceed 800.  I'm waiting too hear back from the NUT but I'm just not so sure that having a negative balance at the end of the day is a good thing.

Most post op plans seem rather anemic on adjustments for the more serious exercise some will do.  Know what I mean Vern?

Here's what I did the first year. You can see that I was in the 700-900 range for quite some time and I was working about about 5-8 hours a week training for Sprint Tris during that time.

I only went up in calories because my surgeon wants me to eat more protein. The goal was more protein. More calories was a side-effect. However, I was training for a HIM at that point and needed that protein.

Thanks for the info.  I think that your numbers seem fair and of course I can bump them a bit because of my size.  So far on the 3 bike days I peaked at about 800 calories and, as you said, part of that was that I targeted more proteins.  So on rest days I seem happy at about 600 and on the 3 bike days I was shooting for about 800 with a higher protein content.

I'm not even really concerned about the quality of my rides for now.  I'm just trying to stay comfortable since I got clearance so early.  So, surprisingly I haven't been devoid of energy the day after.  I seemed a little light headed early AM but recovered as day went.

So for the last week my averages were
682 cals
fat 21 (1/3 each sat, poly, mono)
carbs 41
fiber 13
protein 92
fluids 100 oz
Bike time about 2+30 & 39 miles

I've lost 31 lbs since the day before surgery.
