Signed up for CIM - Am I crazy?
So last night I signed up for the California International Marathon.
I must be insane.
For one thing, I missed the deadline for signing up at the regular price and had to pay $150 more to get a charity slot! I almost didn't do it but I have had no luck finding a marathon to do before the Goofy Challenge that wasn't too close or too far away.
Then, I started thinking about how far I haven't run and I started to panic. I can run 13.1 miles but I really poop out at about the 2 hour / 10 miles mark. In my training, I haven't run 2 hours since I tapered for IMC and I haven't run over 8 miles.
I don't know why I'm so freaked by doing a stand-alone marathon. It doesn't bother me to do one as part of an IM and the Goofy Challenge doesn't scare me either. I think it's because in both those cases, the marathon is part of something else and I'm okay with just slogging through it to say I did it. Running one stand-alone is more about running and I'd expect to do a good job.
Anyway, I'm doing another Half-Marathon this Sunday and then I'm going to work on trying to run 18 miles within a 24 hour period and adding an extra day of running to get up to 4x a week. I hope I can get my mileage up that far before Dec 4th!

I'll be at the C.I.M. too.
But we are doing it as a relay team. I have 3 co-workers that were interested.
I get the glory leg, I'm the finisher. I have two team mates that are 12 minute milers and then another one that is much faster, so I'm not sure what she is going to do to our time.
I'll probably be running around 10 or so. Maybe we will see each other out there on the course.
Well at least the course is supposed to be mostly downhill.
All I'm hoping for is no rain.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
I did that two years ago!
When I got to the finish, none of my teammates was there, which was a bummer. We also had trouble finding each other at the first relay point.
Be sure to come up with a sure-fire way to find each other. Some teams have balloon or signs or other things they hold in the air so you can pick them out of the corral. We didn't think of that until it was too late.
