Help for a big ol guy!!!!!!
Hello everyone I have a few questions for the trainers and the morbidly obese who have managed to meet their goals and lose weight to gain a happier life.I have recently decided to make a lifestyle change and get my self in shape, but i am very in experienced at doing this so I have decided to come here for advice ok so far I am 6 days in and I have lowered my calorie intake and for the last 3 days i figured i could walk non stop for 1hr possibly even more with being to tired or winded but i believe i could push my self to do something a little more rewarding.I have also purchased a stability ball from ball dynamics and i was wondering could you guys give me tips on what type a exercise a very big guy can do standing by himself or on a stability ball to shed weight and build strength IM still a rookie and i cant do push up yet so something looking for something low impact but effective i was also wondering could you guys refer to some workout videos for big guys thats not grueling that i can use to lose some weight.any tips would be highly appreciated it
Thanks
Brandon17.
You can do them standing/leaning against a wall, or using a chair or coffee table and your knees or the ground and your knees or the stability ball as the platform.
The walking is great, do you have a place to add in some swimming or maybe some cycling, both of those are lower impact and will help your cardio without putting stress on the joint like running would.
I can't find my link right now, but there is an exercise/weight lifting web page that has a bunch of different/alternative exercises with and without weights. Not only do they have pictures, but they have videos online as well and you can download them to your smart phone so you can take them with you for reference if you need to review how to do a particular exercise.
I know I have seen others post the link before, sorry I can't seem to locate it right now.
The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
30 minutes to an hour if you can? Then ask yourself am I tired, do I feel like I did anything. If you feel like a picnic in the park, then you probably didn't work hard enough. If you only got in 5 minutes and feel like you are done for the day, back off and start building up each week. Make incrimental changes not wholescale remodeling.
I am recommending being cautious because I don't know your physical condition, what you can and can't do precisely. Remeber if you hurt yourself, you aren't doing any exercise. So it's better to be cautious than reckless.
You can mix and match your walks to your ability.
Add in some hills, increase and decrease your pace.
When you body allows, add in a couple short and I mean real short runs, even if it is just a few steps. Anything to mix up your workouts.
I could walk all day, but when I was over 400 pounds, walking 10 minutes would kill me, my feet would hurt, I'd need to sit down.
This is subjective, but do as much as you can without hurting yourself. Start easy, and gradually increase.
There is a program for runners called couch to 5k you can modify it for your walking. I have used it for cycling too. It is basically just intervales a walk/jog combination, but you could use it for fast/slow walk or hills/flats

When I walk an hour i usually feel i could do something else,so im going to take your advice and try to add some short runs in as well also do you think buying a stepper the kind the sits on the floor doing that fof an hour would be better than walking?
thanks for your help i really appreciate it!!!!
