MCL's are just big ruiners
And so are distracted drivers.
I was running Monday down a rural stretch , I usually go here as I had the precepton of it being safer. Some fine person driving and no****ching where they were headed started heading into the next car lane, then over the line and starting into the bike lane , my running lane. I literally dove off the road and of course they kept driving. When I went to stand my knee buckled and I felt a lovely sensation on the medial aspect of my left knee.
Doc today diagnosed me with a grade III MCL tear and will be in an immobilizer for the next 4-6 weeks and not running, biking for the next 8 weeks. Ugh! I have a 5k this weekend and my first TRI (well was going to be my first) the first weekend of December. It seems I will be serving pancakes as a volunteer for the run this weekend now.
Just very irritating that some fine individual can really throw things for a loop for you. Yes, yes I will fill my glass up and say I am very greatful I was not in the way of his progession on the road but I am still very bummed none-the-less.
So any advice if anyone has had this injury. Just take it easy? Is it worth is to see a physical therapist or just take it easy doing minimal leg excercises? Thanks guys!

wow, that really sucks, especially because it was the result of somebody else doing something stupid. i haven't had to deal with any MCL/ACL tears, but i would definitely listen to the advice of your medical team. heal up, i feel for you, injuries are extremely frustrating.
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

That does suck, sorry to hear about it.
I hope the recovery is painless for you.
Can you find some alternate stuff to do while your leg heals.
Can you do upper body work at the gym, or did you ask about non weight bearing activity like swimming?
I hope you have a speedy recovery.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
Totally sucks. As frustrating as injuries can be if you follow the docs advice you will be back in no time. Awesome that you are volunteering since you can't race.

That sucks! Im too afraid to walk/jog outside on the stress of Los Angeles so I usually end up driving to areas safe for pedestrians.
Hope you have a quick recovery!
