First Half on Sunday!
So Sunday is 13.1 Atlanta which is my first Half Marathon, signed up for it by accident the day before my 10K in July. Signingup was a good mistake as it has forced me to really focus on my running and adding distance. I have had a a couple 12+ training runs so I fell confident that I can do the distance.
The past couple weeks I have been hit with a pain on the pack of my right knee, so bad last weekend that I could only get 10 miles and actually had to walk a good portion of mile 7. I asked my wife to make an Ortho appointment for next week after the race, so I wouldn't have to hear someone tell me I couldn't run, well she made it for this morning.
They did X-rays and everything checked out good on the films. When I met the doctor I told him all the details and that I was running a half on Sunday regardless of what he said. He didn't feel it a was tendon or ligament issue but possibly a torn meniscus, which wouldn't prevent me from running. He did stress multiple times that it would hurt and possibly hurt a lot but he wouldn't stop me.
He hooked me up with a cortizone shot in the knee and a hinged brace to wear to help stabalize the knee. So I get out of the office and run to the car and had some discomfort but not the pain I had before. So give the shot time to work and I should be good to go.
Other than that I am just doing the prerace mindgame with myself and trying to stay calm and not freakout while I hydrate and try to fuel for sunday.
I have a friend running the same race she actually is the one that got me started and she said I inspired her to run this race. She is 12 years post-op and runs a ton of marathons so it will be nice to know someone there.
