Killer Exercise

Sorry for the double posting (posted RNY main forum as well)

I have been doing 50-60 minutes on the elliptical at least 2 sometimes 3 times a week. There is a new machine at my gym that I decided to try. OMG!!!

The machine is called a adaptive motion trainer. This thing killed me! Supposedly you can run, jog, walk or stair climb with zero impact.

Either I do not know how to work the machine or this thing is killer. I did about 10 minutes and had to stop. 2 days later the tops of my thighs are still killing me.

Has anyone else used this killer contraption? If so am I doing something wrong. I couldn't figure out what to do with my arms and all I could do was the up and down stair stepper part. Do I have to change a setting to do the running/ walking?

I am going to try again because I no longer feel the burn on the elliptical.

I had to google it and then I went "Ohhh that's what it's called" I call it the Free Elliptical, as it has no track.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this machine, I always use it when I'm at the gym, it kicks booty! I especially like to do intervals on it, you can set it to change the resistance back and forth every 2min. I started out at 5min, but I usually do at least 45min on it now with the long strides.

Keep increasing your time and resistance, it will pay off!

Yay, finally someone who knows what I am talking about!!

I can't figure out how to do movements other than the stair stepper (up and down). How do I get it to go like I am jogging? The arm part doesn't move much and if I pull or push the arm handles it makes the feet go all weird.

There is also a stride meter that turns red and green. Am I supposed to keep it in the green? When I do I am basically going up and down.

I think more people would use this torture device if it had instructions. I go to a recreation center so there aren't really staff there that know how to use the machines. I will continue to try and build up my time and watch other people until I figure it out.

No pain, no gain!!! :)

You just have to push really hard in that forward and back motion to get to the jogging stage. I usually have to do a few stair step strides before I can get the momentum to be jogging, but then it's easy to keep it in the jogging stage.  Really use your hips and push!

I usually try to keep my stride as long as possible, which means that it goes into the orange/red. But you can use it as a stair stepper (green) if you want.

Enjoy!!

You have to really push hard to get it into a jogging motion - I felt like such an idiot the first time I ever tried one of those. Once you start though, it's pretty easy to keep going and you can change the resistance from there.
