I'm so sorry, big huge (((HUGS))) I can't imagine how awful that must feel. However, on the upside, you are going to get your health, vitality and life back...and that's priceless.

Try looking forward to all the amazing things you'll be able to do, instead of the one thing that you can't... maybe your destined to be another Ironman participant??? Whatever it is, your life will be so much healthier and it sounds like you know that, so attempt to focus on that instead.

Bonne Chance

I know its a lot to take in right now, but like Danni said, there are other ways to serve. We can serve in any law enforcement department. I would join the police department, but I live in a very bad area, and police either get shot at or killed on a daily basis, I went through enough of that in Iraq. So, if we move, it is something I am highly considering. Also, the fire department will let us in.

I was very bummed, disappointed, even depressed when I realized I would never serve again. The key is finding new goals. I trained for months and finished my first ironman triathlon on August 28th. I know from experience that if I was in the Army, there is no way I would have been able to train for and finish the ironman, the Army just doesn't care about that stuff, once they have you, your life and what you want to do no longer matters. I have many more goals like this, and intend to do an ironman every other year.

Many recruiters don't know that WLS is an automatic disqualifier. I went through 2 different recruiters last year, both said it would be ok, but as soon at the paperwork started to be submitted all the forms would be rejected. The second one called the recruiting headquarters in Virginia and talked with them about my situation, and it was a no, and our condition is not even allowed with a waiver.
