Need suggestions for better sneakers

I have flat feet, deal with a small bone spur and Plantar Fascitis at times.  I have been wearing a Sketcher walking sneaker and they are thick rigid soles and I feel like they are actually starting to make my knees hurt too!  I want to be much more active and think the right shoes would make a world of difference!  Anyone have great luck with anything that they want to share?

I have plantar fascitis and went to a local sporting goods-type store. They had a set-up with a treadmill and a computer program that actually analyzes your feet as you walk. Based on the information obtained, they can make really great shoe suggestions. I ended up with Asics GT-2160 (used to be 2150). I'm on my second pair in two years and I love them. They aren't cheap, but they really feel heavenly. I would suggest you look in your local area for a place that has a similar program. The store I went to specializes in biking/running supplies. Good luck!

When I was heavy and since I've lost weight, I've always gone to the local running specialty store to get fitted for walking/running shoes.  They haven't steered me wrong yet.  They will watch you run/walk and help you figure out what kind of shoe works best for your stride.  Most will give you a few pairs to try on and figure out which feel best.  It can be trial and error.

Just be prepared to spend $70-150.  I go with no plans on a color or brand, I just buy what feels right.  Sometimes it's $80, sometimes $120, but when it saves you pain, it's totally worth it!

What the heck is a "sneaker?"
Is that like a shoe?

Funny!  Usually we call them running shoes.
Going and getting fitted by someone at  running store should be the first step.
Remember you get what you pay for.

Good luck!

Sometimes you actually get a lot more than what you pay. This weekend our Running Company is having their annual cellar clearance sale. They put shoes on sale for $30-$40. I usually buy two to three pairs of Brooks, Asics, and others. Three pairs of shoes for $100 is great this time of year.
