Not loosing any weight

Ok, so I just recently joined a gym to start working out. I joined on Saturday and have done 3 spin classes which are an hour long and have been using the elliptical and treadmill the other times for half hour to an hour. I have since gained 3 pounds?!? Is this even normal? I took a starting weight on Saturday and beginning measurements and have not measured yet because I figured there wouldn't be much change in just 5 days but gaining, I just don't get lol. I am not going to give up or get down but I just want to make sure I am doing things right. Most of you exercise  A LOT so I thought this would be a great place to look. I consume about 900 to 1200 calories in a day, 25 to 60 grams of carbs, 60 to 120 grams of protein on average. I drink a TON of water. Am I doing something wrong or do you have any advice that might help?

Sounds as if some of your loss may have been muscle. It is very commom for the body to add to the muscles prior to taking from the fat when beginning an excercise program. I would keep my daily calories as low as possible while still taking in the recommended protein, etc...and give it a few weeks to let the body "settle in" to the excercise and see what happens. Also go ahead and take your measurements so that you can track the changes that way until the weight loss kicks in, that should help you mentally. I know that when I track the inches coming off that is VERY exciting! The health tracker on here is an easy tool to use for this if you don't already.
Good luck!

You need more calories. Spin classes are an hour long and intense, depending on how hard you work, a spin class can burn 900 or more calories, and that's all you are eating all day. You body is now in starvation mode, so it is holding on to every morsel of food you give it in fears of not having enough energy to maintain basic life functions and keeping you moving. Make sure they are good calories, lean protein or clean carbs.

Thank you! This is what I was thinking, that maybe I am not eating enough on the days I do spin. I work pretty hard (to me) lol but I am just starting out so I am not good at this =) Thank you for the advice! I don't feel drained or anything but for the first few days I kept getting dizzy everytime I moved to fast so maybe it's because I wasn't eating enough.

I don't agree. I trained for triathlons on 900 calories a day. My body got the energy it needed from my stored fat. That's what it's there for.

To the OP, when you first increase the intensity of your workout, your body tends to retain water as it repairs the microtears in your muscles in order to build fitness. I find whenever I increase my exercise, I don't lose weight that week. But then my body kind of levels out and the scale starts dropping again and I see the results the second week.

FIND THE CLOSEST TRASH CAN AN INSERT YOUR SCALE. I know everyone thinks about weightloss but aren't you really wanting fat loss? Fat loss doesn't show up as much on the scale as it does in the mirror. Keep at it and you WILL get the results and yes you need more calories as Jillian says.

LOL yeah I think I am going to ask my DF to hide that darn thing. It's evil! =) Thank you for the help! I can't wait to retake my measurements to see the progress.
