Well i have to undergo a 3 month diet plan to satisfy my insurance requirements before the surgery can be scheduled. I was frustrated , but have slept on it and accepted it. I was thinking of starting walking/jogging today and beggining a low carb/ high protein diet  on monday. I figure it cant hurt to loose some weigjht before surgery. Although i know i will not be able to do low carb for long..

I worked out for three years prior to surgery and I really feel like it helped me so much in my recovery and has taken me further since the surgery. Start small - walking/jogging - don't hurt yourself lifting weights and keep yourself from going back the next day.

You might be surprised on the carb thing. Once you cut them out for real, the cravings tend to dissipate.

Before surgery, while I was waiting, I started changing my eating habits. I never did low carb anything BUT i did try and focus on making my meals primarily protein (eating chicken, turkey or beef for lunch/dinner), and in the 10 mo or so before surgery, I lost 85 lbs. I also exercised - a lot. And Im really glad I did. Now post-op, it's easier to get started again, and I don't feel like I'm starting from scratch.

The exercise also really helped right after surgery because my body was stronger - it really made a difference for the recovery.

I know the eating habits of Puerto Ricans too well.  My daughter is 1/2 Puerto Rican, so 1/2 of her family is as well.  Her uncle had Lap Band surgery last year and he successfully cut out all white rice and switched to brown rice (it's still carbs but it's healthy carbs)  Beans are good protein so no need to cut them out.  He completely cut out the bread and coffee.  He would dip the bread in the coffee...he also used to put crackers in his coffee too...but not no more.  I am proud of him!!!!  I am sure you can do it too.
