what do u eat before/after workouts?
Just wanted to see what others do...
I work out on my lunch break, a really intense "boot camp" style workout. I usually have a yogurt and a protein bar an hour before the workout. Then after the workout I have a protein shake (1 scoop of powder, 1 cup of skim, blended with a banana). Then about an hour later my belly is grumbling for more, so when I get home after work around 5PM, I am starving and tend to binge...its a vicious cycle and I feel like I'm undoing all my hard work from the workout.
So what do you all eat before and after a workout?
Any tips on how to keep me full longer post-workout?
Thank You!
the protein shake route just goes right through my pouch and does nothing to satisfy my hunger.
Pre workout either a protein shake or protein bar, but actually I'd prefer to have a couple slices of bread with some PB on it. Something like the sarah lee delightful bread or one of the sandwich thins so that's about 100 calories, then the PB usually in the form of pb2.
If it is a morning workout or a race and I have time, I like to have some steel cut oats and a banana, or a serving of nuts and mixed fruit added to the oats, or a bagel and some peanut butter.
After the workout
I'd do better having the same type of thing you listed in your shake, but in their solid forms.
A protein bar equivalent (calories/fat/protein) of the powder and milk, and the banana in solid form.
If I eat lunch at noon, and then have to wait until dinner to eat again, I binge just like you mention. I do better on splitting my lunch up, maybe having a couple 200 calorie meals.
One at noon, then another at 3 or so. Then I'm not starving when I get home.

Try eating grilled chicken breast after you workout. It really sticks with you. I grill a big batch of chicken breasts every weekend and put them in individual zipper bags for each day of the week. One goes with me to work each day. A 6 oz breast is a great source of protein....and I eat on it all day long when I am hungry.
Workout: depends on the workout
Post-work: something with protein and carbs like a cheese stick or Fluid Recovery Drink (The Chocolate Wave flavor is AWESOME)
When I get home, I have dinner or whatever the next meal is.

post workout is a myoplex lite protein bar (190 calories and 15g of protein). i find, like scott, that the shakes go right through me and i feel really hungry right after.
