Amazon has the Garmin 305 for $128...the 410 for a little more but the reviews aren't as good. I need HELP but at the best price.

Experiences - great deals I'm not aware of?

Be happy.

The 305 is great, but it is a big watch, bulky.
The new model 310 is out and it has some more features, and is supposed to be waterproof where the 305 isn't.
The 310 also uses heart rate as part of it's calculation for figuring out calories burned, the 305 does not.
The 310 is also ANT+ so you can wirelessly connect it to things like power meters for the bike.
The 305 is not ANT+

I have a 305 and it's a grea****ch.  I really like it and truthfully it is probably more watch than most people will ever need.  I still haven't used all the feature/options available on the watch.  I use it for running and cycling.  They make a cadence/speed sensor that can be used for when the bike is on the bike trainer and you aren't really moving or you can't get a satellite signal.  When this is the case, it uses the standard magnet setup like most bike computers, so you can still have you speed/cadence/distance information even though you aren't going anywhere.

They also sell a foot pod that does the same thing for those times when you are running indoors.

Additionally you can get the chest strap to monitor you heart rate.

If you aren't going to use all the extras like the ANT+ technology or you don't plan to swim with it then go for the 305, but if you think you are going to want those features in the future, then take some more time, save the money and get the 310.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!

I have the 310 and I love it. Before that I had 3 different devices - a HRM, a bike computer and a run computer. Too complicated!

I use the 310 for swimming, biking and running and have the speed/cadence sensor for my bike. I also have a foot pod but no longer wear a shoe that holds it so I need to find a way to attach it to my new shoes.

I also use the 310 for other workouts where I'm just keeping track of the time. I only do that so I can upload them to the Plus 3 Network though.

I have had the 305, 405 and the 310.  I sold the 405 as it was pretty worthless given that the bezel touch, while an interesting feature, didn't actually work right and was always doing crazy things during workouts, and would never work right when swea****ing it and such.  I am guessing the 410 is an improvement on it, but I wouldn't go there again...

The 305 is simple to use and very effective, albeit bulky.  If you are just going to run with it or use it for the bike for cadence/speed, its perfect and its how I used it.  Once I started tri's though, I wanted something waterproof, and with a longer battery, and the 310 fits the bill.  Plus, I put on the new quick connect system, so it snaps from my wrist to the bike with a quick twist, which is very cool.  The ant+ is also good for wirelessly transmitting the data to the computer/internet, although then you have to worry about the usb dongle (I have gone through one already).

If you have the money and plan  on doing tri's, I'd go for the 310, but the 305 is a much less expensive very good alternative.
