Hypoglycemic - Please Help!!

Hi.

I'm hypoglycemic and normally do not have any trouble keeping it under control.   BUT...now that I'm attempting to exercise above what I call low to moderate intensity, I have a severe drop in my glycemic levels and almost pass out.

I don't meet with my nut until Sept. 1st, and of course she doesn't get back into the office until this coming Wednesday, 8/3.  So, in the mean time I'd like to get some input and ideas from you seasoned exercisers.

I ride bike, and am attempting to move from fast paced walking to jogging.  EVERY time I start to break a good sweat, I start getting shakey, tunnel vision, nausea, a throbbing pulse that I can feel in my head bomb waiting to blow...some of you may already deal with this, or have had to at one time, and I'd like to know how to avoid this?? It ruins the next 3-4 hours of the the day while I consume our bariatric sized portions of allowed carbs and water, and then take a nap, because as things return to normal, I feel really tired and a bit nauseated yest and my headache persists.

How do you all prepare? What do you eat and how much, and what do you drink and how much before more intense exercising?? And what do you do afterward to beat the glycemic drop?

I sincerely thank you for your input ahead of time.  I really want to get this under control and at least finish one 5k, or more lengthy bike ride without have to call for assistance in getting home!! It's so embarassing, not to mention, it does nothing for my feelings of accomplishment!

The main thing that has helped me is to eat 6 small meals during the day.  Lots of protein and complex carbs (I get approx 120 grams of protein and 100 grams of carbs each day).  30 mins before I work out I usually eat a couple whole grain crackers and some colby cheese.  Otherwise, I have the same issues.

Make sure you are getting enough nutrition in general for the amount of calories you are burning daily.

Thanks Kim!

I haven't reached my goal weight of 145 yet...I have about 15 lbs to go...do you think the increase in protein and carbs would hinder the loss of more weight??

And, what kind of crackers...carbs scare me sooo much!  I feel like one is gonna make turn into some kind of carb craving fiend!! Lol!

Any type of whole grain cracker.  You need some carbs for energy...don't be afraid of good, complex carbs.

Actually, my metabolism got even better once I started eating this way.  Just be careful and ensure you are eating wholesome, healthy choices and staying within your daily caloric intake.

Be sure not to exercise on an empty tank. I "top off" by having my fruit or veggie snack right before exercise and something like cheese sticks or my Fluid Recovery Drink after.
