Volunteering at the Lake Placid Ironman Sunday was an amazing experience.  I was fortunate to work the finish line to see the emotion as the athletes finished and soak up the whole experience.  Monday I registered for the 2012 event as my first IM.  I was excited that there were still slots available online because my brother was also able to register.

I'm sure I'll be asking many questions from those who have already made this journey.

Way to go! Its a year away, but can't wait to read about your experience! I'm in freak out mode since mine is 31 days away!

You're going to nail your IM.  You're such a strong athlete with an "iron" will!

congrats!  best of luck to you for training.  i haven't committed to a full IM, i'm not sure i can commit to the training required, but it is on the list of things that i would like to accomplish some day.
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

The training time is a little intimidating.  I figure I'll be training, working, and spending time with family.  Everything else will be on hold.

When I was in line to register, a self-employed contractor said his business always suffers when he trains for an IM.  But, he keeps coming back for more.

woohoo!   Awesome.  Looking forward to rocking through Louisville as a "training" event for LP!  :)  We're going to need to do some of the training rides together!  I am so pumped about it!

Absolutely!  I rode one loop of the course Saturday and it is so beautiful.   I hope to get up there a couple of weekends in 2012 to practice the descent.   With the busy traffic Saturday, I was very timid and didn't take full advantage of the speed that could be attained.

Good luck with Louisville!
