Yet another c25k question.

So. I was thinking about adding the c25k application to my phone. My question is, does it all have to be done on a treadmill or outside? Could the work out be done on an elliptical? Has anyone tried that?

You can do it wherever you want.

But using an elliptical is no where nere running on the treadmill, which is not as tough as running on the street.  I have even used in on the stationary bike when I missed spin class and had to setup my own workout.

I have used it on the elliptical for my off days when I wanted to get a workout but didn't want to get back to back runs in.

If you are running on the treadmill, you should put 1-2% incline on it to simulate outside.

I find the treadmill mentally more tiring, but running outside is physically more tiring.

Well as of right now I've not even started running at all. I don't think I've ran since uhhhh... I was like 15? My work outs consist of me doing 30 minutes every morning of cardio. I rotate between the elliptical and the treadmill (On incline of 5). But it's all walking.

I just want to have something a little different for my work outs.

Do you suggest that I just do the program on the treadmill at first?

Actually I downloaded it and since it's a 3 day a week program and I work out 6 I could just do each day's work out twice one on the elliptical and one on the treadmill.

It's better not to do that. You don't want to run too much, especially at first, when your body is getting used to it. It would be better to do cross training on the other 3 days instead.

I started out on the treadmill, and eventually switched over to the road.

If you are trying to complete it in order to run a 5k race, I suggest a mix of treadmill and road (or all road).  If you just want a workout, do it where ever you will actually do the work out.

You can do either treadmill or road or a combination.  But I agree, that doing it on the eliptical isn't the same.  That being said, doing interval training on the eliptical is great cardio and nothing wrong with it.

I just recently completed the C25k program, have never been a runner, and now run 3 miles every other morning.   I highly recommend the program.  I did all mine outside.  Once during a rain, I started my run on the dreadmill and after 10 minutes had enough and took it outside in the rain.  I have found that I don't have the mental capacity to do cardio indoors unless it is a group class:  spin, step and zumba. I am lucky that I live in NW Florida and can exercise outside year round.  Find what works best for you and just develop a consistent pattern.

GOOD LUCK.  The hardest step in the program is the first one right after you lace up your shoes.

I am creating my own revolution and PAMdemonium reigns!
