Plenty of time.  You don't have to run the whole race as fast as you can. Just showing up and finishing it is the goal.

I did my first 5K in 43 minutes. I walked probably half of it, I believe - off and on. I agree that if you have a race to focus on your training goes better.

Just take it slow. On the C2K program, I had to repeat some of the weeks when I first started, and I could not run 90 seconds at a time the first week. I could barely run 60, and it would take me 2-3 minutes to recover from that 60. And it was very slow going - it took me a good three months to actually run FIVE minutes in a row, lol. Now I am good, but I notice if I take time off I lose the speed and endurance I've gained VERY quickly. Good luck with it!

I was able to run a ten minute mile at 255 lbs last year for my brown belt test, after three months training. So you should be good.

I walked my first 5K and took I think 46 minutes!  I was just I think 7 weeks post-op.  I spent a lot of time walking since then..but am slowing switching over to running.  Not a great time but in today's heat I managed to alternate run/walk 5k in 38 minutes.  I still have a long way to go..but am really loving it.  I never ever thought I would/could become a runner.  Now if I could just break this awful plateau I have been on.

I do my hour of cardio 5 days a week like a good girl.  I usually swim laps or walk for those 60 minutes.  I'm up to 3.5mph consistently on the treadmill.  I want to always push so I'm thinking maybe jogging is my next step.  How do I start?  Am I too heavy at 265?  I have a serious hatred for eliptical machines so ....  Thanks!!
Jogging is  an effective way to lose weight because of high calorie burn. Check with your doctor before beginning a jogging regimen. Here are some steps to start jogging for weight lose.
1. Purchase shoes specially designed for jogging.
2. Begin each jogging session with a five-minute warm-up to loosen your muscles and reduce risk of injury.
3. Jog only a short distance for the first week or two of your program.
4. Run on soft surfaces such as grass or asphalt.
5. Drink plenty of water before and after jogging.
6. Aim for 30 minutes of jogging a day, five days a week, to meet the cardio recommendations, and reduce calorie intake to lose weight more quickly.
I hope this will helpful to you.
