Swimming is great exercise!  It's better to do something so I think if swimming is what works for you then go for it.  Once you start to feel better and the weight starts to come off then you can definitely add to the swimming.

Swimming is great! It's also an all over body exercise, and the water helps relieve any stress on your body. You're doing great!

When I started, I could barely walk 1/4 mile without my knees and back hurting. Now I do half marathons. Keep doing what you're doing and it will get better.

You betcha, swimming is a great exercise.
Now here's something more for you to do in the pool:
Jog in place
Do jumping jacks and torpedo exercise
Froggie jumps and volleyball jumps
Cross country skiing moves
Get some water weights and workout your upper body for strength training in the pool.
Use the same "water weights" and do sit ups in the pool.
Do rocking horse exercises in the pool: swing your arms under the water and rock forward and back.
I do water aerobics and have done water aerobics for over 10 years...it's one of my favs!
Oh yeah...keep doing water, you can't go wrong. You can work out your whole body and you can do hard work outs or easy ones.
You can also do deep water exercises with a water belt.

I swim but I also do water aerobics sometimes and I like the social aspects of that.
