A Little Reflection...

Dan,

Before I had WLS I told someone my goal was to complete an Ironman. They laughed. After finding this site and reading your race report and by pouring over and sharing your blogs with others I realized I actually could do it. I bought a used tri bike while I was too heavy to ride, started weight training, had RNY, and kept strength training.

I finished the ITU Edmonton World Cup Tri Sprint on July 10th and was last to finish because of my swim time, but I did finish at 49 years old. The swim killed me. I thought of quitting several times during that swim, but everyone around me (including my personal canoe life guards ;) were so positive and keep saying "you're going to be a triathlete" that I couldn't stop and disappoint them. One poor lonely guy out on the course was applauding everyone although it was pouring rain. Who is gonna stop in front of that guy?!

I'm taking Total Immersion swim lessons now with a coach and riding, running C210K, or biking (or 2 of the 3) every day with one day per week off. I've seen your picture with the 80ish year old nun, on stage with others that have lost weight and choose to compete, and read your stories about each amazing experience; even delusional as the black cats jumped out of trees during your 100-miler.

I appreciate your self motivation and determination and it is a gift that you give to others. Thanks for sharing it with me.

Regards,

Gary
