running and breathing
That in the nose out the mouth thing is kind of old research. Most elites now use a combo and I find myself using both without thinking too hard about it.
If breathing is an issue you can practice breathing in accordance with your stride. I count two strides per breathe in and two strides per breathe out. in-in-out-out, in-in-out-out with each foot fall. If I start to get a stitch in the side I will change it up to in-in-in-out-out, in-in-in-out-out which causes you to breathe with an alternating stride.

I breath in and out through my nose and mouth.
If you have burning in your lungs and trouble breathing, that usually means you are running too fast and slowing down will help a lot.
Do you have allergies or other breathing issues?

Also here are two articles about breathing while running:
http://www.military.com/military-fitness/workouts/breathing-during-exercise
http://www.runningjogging.com/Breathing_Techniques_While_Running.html
One says to breath through nose and mouth to get more O2 in and the other doesn't say but talks about the cadence of breathing.
