Advice needed: readiness for 4-miler

I have been running 3x per week for the past 4 months, usually about 3-3.5 miles.  My longest training run has been 3.75 miles, and I've only done that distance twice.  I've run two 5K races, finished both, but during the first one (back in early April) I did walk some.

That said, there is a 4-mile race I'm thinking about entering this coming Saturday.  Am I crazy?  I'm not running it to win, just to finish.  Early entry deadline is tomorrow, so I'm debating.  What do you think?

I don't think anyone's going to tell you no!! You should definitely sign up for it. If you can do 3.75 mi, there's no reason you cant do a little more - even if you have to walk a little. Sounds likes a good chance to push yourself a little

Good luck! Hope to hear how it went next weekend.

You will quickly learn this is not the place to come for people to tell you not to do something. So with that being said YES! you should do this race.  If you can do 3 miles you can do 4.  Registering will probably be the hardest part of the whole race.  If you have been training you can do it.  Remember it's your first time so no matter how you do you have set a PR.

End the debate and go for it!

Go for it. If you can do 3.75 you can gut it out and finish.

The first time I did a 10k in a race, I'd only run 5 miles without stopping and 5.5 miles with stops.

You don't have to do the distance to race it. My training plan for a half-marathon had 10 miles as the longest run, for example.

Just go ahead and run, contests like these make you push further. Once you are able to run 4 miles, you won’t even realize how soon your body would adapt to running 4 miles on a daily basis.

Thanks for your encouragement, everyone!  I'm happy to say that I DID IT!!  4 miles, and I ran the whole way.  I set a goal to complete it in 45 minutes--I know that's slow, but it's a good pace for me--and I finished in 44:08!  WOOT!
