water exercise

I do exercise workouts in water (no****er aerobics) now and wanted to know has any one else done them either before and/or after RNY surgery?  If so how soon after surgery were you permitted to get back to exercising? Does it help to control flabby skin or speed up weight loss? My brother and best Friend both had the RNY and neither one exercised, both of them took a little more than 2 years to start looking better.
Any help on this would be great.
Thanks to any and all *****ply!

I've done water running when I was injured and couldn't run on land. This was after my surgery. I've also done water aerobics.

Every surgeon is different about when they say you can get back in the water but basically you can do it when your incisions are healed enough. So about 3-6 weeks depending on how fast you heal.

Yes, exercise will speed up your weight loss. For example, lots of people talk about how hard it is to get off the last 10-20 pounds and/or how hard it gets after 6 months. Well, every time my weight loss slowed down, I'd up my exercise, and it would pick back up. I didn't slow down at 6 months and and I had no trouble getting my last 10-20 pounds off.

Loose skin? That's more complicated. Muscles will fill in some of the loose skin. Time will take care of some of it too. There was also a study that showed that people who exercised had "firmer" skin than people who didn't. BUT there is a limit. You can't exercise away your loose skin because exercise increases the muscles and reduces the fat but it doesn't reduce the skin.

I work out in water because I am unable to do it on land. On workout days I'm usually dead the rest of the day, but the next I feel fantastic. I'm trying to get mobile enough to do Zumba on the other days, cause the music nearly makes it impossible to sit still.

I do deep water aerobics on my cross-training days, and it is a heckuva workout.  I recommend it heartily!  Ask your doctor about how soon, but I agree, it will be when your incisions are healed.  My doctor said 3 weeks.

I will say that I think exercise of any kind will speed up your weight loss.  I am below goal and happy, because I can eat quite a bit, and I'm staying steady or still losing a bit.  Not yet to my 1 year surgiversary.   So do what feels good, just keep moving!!

I had my surgery 3 months ago. I started doing water arobics and i think that helps me a lot and workouts in exercise program to lose weight without developing flabby skin. Some of the benefits of exercising in water include decreasing pain, stiffness, muscle spasm, and muscle guarding.

Thank you all for the support and ideas.  My trainer just started me running in the pool the other week and it was FABULOUS!!!! I haven't been able to run in years, and I got so exhilirated I began to laugh and had to stop running because I ran out of air.
Thanks again for your help.
