Scared to Death

The battle is done, just look at the prize of being able to walk or run in that race.  I have been walking in quite  a few races and I surprise myself each time when I finish.  I wish you well.

When I did my first 5k, I was dead last out of 203 runners. They even gave me a medal. The crowed cheered as much for me as it did for the person who came in first. It took me about 56 minutes and that was running!

My son said: "Are you upset?" and I said: "Are you kidding me?" Two years prior I was almost 300 lbs, and here I was crossing the finish line at a race. How could I be upset? Look at what I was able to do! In my mind, under the cir****tances it was nothing short of a miracle.

The energy and excitement you will feel when you arrive on the morning of the race is unique and exhilarating. It will propel you through the starting gate; but it is nothing compared to how you will feel at the end. You will feel like you're walking on a cloud for days.

I read a lot of John Bingham when I got started, and a quote of his is on my blog. "The miracle is not that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start." Focus on your reasons for doing this, and not the time clock or the finish line. You can do this.

Wishing you the best first race ever!

Linda
