So I joined the gym today.  Now I need a plan as to how best to use it.  Getting to the gym shouldn't be a problem for me and I can be there in the middle of the afternoon when it's fairly slow.

I've always been active but I haven't done any gym type stuff in several years.

My big problem right now is fatigue.  I am worn out all the time even when I'm not doing much.  I think maybe a regular workout will help with this but right now, I feel like **** on a stick.

The exercise chick at my clinic says to do 60 minutes of cardio 5 days a week and strength training 3 days a week.  I do have a treadmill at home.  As of now I'm not able to do 60 minutes in one sitting.  I do have a treadmill at home ....

So how should I arrange this?

THANKS!

I am no exercise guru but it depends where you start from and how you want your body to look..

My workout schedule isnt nearly as brutal as some of the folks here but they may have more time, be younger, may have started out better physically fit, lot of different stuff in to play here... I do what I enjoy...

Sundays 5k run, 2 mile walk, heavy set of weights
Monday, 1 mile run 4 mile walk
Tues 2 mile run 3 mile walk
Wed REST
Thursday 5k run, 2 mile walk, light set of weight
Friday Walk
Sat REST

I am working weekly on increasing my speed on the Treadmill.. In the beginning, I would start with 30 min walk and do light weights 2x a week.. You dont want to injure yourself.. I would focus on just moving.. then work on extending your work outs, strength and endurance.

You are still pretty much a surgery newbie, right? I honestly didn't feel like working out extensively until about 3 months out....I was doing walking and minor stuff, but didn't step it up until the last month.

I would personally think 60 minutes of cardio is too much right off the bat. My gym routine at first was 20-25 minutes on the treadmill, pushing myself, at 4.2 or higher - very fast walk. Then I'd do stretching, crunches, and move onto the weight machines and focus on a different body part each day. Start with light weights and lots of reps and gradually increase the weights. I started off at 10 lbs and now I can do 70 lbs on most machines, in just 8 weeks or so time.

Thanks!

Scarlett - I'm right at 3 months out. I managed 45 minutes swimming yesterday but I thought I was going to die when I got out. Not sure I want to repeat that!
