Foot pain before race

Last weekend, I did tons of hiking in crappy shoes. Bad idea. I felt fine though. Ran on Tuesday and the arch of my foot was killing me. So, I iced it. Yesterday just walking around at work it started hurting again, iced it last night.

Well, I have a half marathon on Saturday. I assume I should rest this foot until then. I don't think it's plantar fascitis since it doesn't hurt first then when getting up from sitting. I'm just freaking out that it's going to mess up my race.

Ideas?

Sounds to me like Plantar Fasciatis... As a result of tight calfs. Shortening of the Fascia typically occurs with a lot of uphill walking / running. Freeze a can of soda, put a lot of pressure on it with your foot and roll over it back and forth for 10 minutes 5 x a day. Do a lot of calf stretches as well...

Ugh...what a pain. I will try the pop can thing though!

I was thinking of taping it for the race.

Dan nailed it as usual , my first thought was tight calves. Stretch, stretch and stretch some more.

Dan got it. You can also take a tennis ball and roll your foot on it.

I must admit - I never stretch. Can't even touch my toes! I'm hitting the stretches today though! Thanks!

How about treating yourself to a massage? My masseuse is great.. I usuallly go for a 2 hour.. starts out with heated massage, then she stretches me out for about 30 minutes then finishes with a massage.. on the extra sore bits I use old fashion soak with epsom salts and rub down with Arnica oil/cream.

I need to do more stretching too.. I need to find a video/dvd so on my rest days I can put it in to practice more.. I might go to the library,, hmm..

Good luck with your 1/2..I really hope everything goes well.. Happy Healing :)
