Swimming again - and what a difference from last year

The weather has finally improved enough to heat my pool and I can swim again!!!! Hurray!  Swimming has always been my favorite sport and I could go for hours.  I think being really overweight, the natural buoyancy of the water made it easier to do and kept me cool.

So I went swimming today for the first time since last summer, and found my laps were much more of a work out.  I think I'm swimming faster and harder and really am getting my heart rate up in a way I never did when I was heavy.  Then I use to take it slow and easy, now I really worked it.   I also use to be able to tread water for ever with almost no effort, now it's hard work and I don't think I can even last a full minute.  And I sink.  I mean like a rock.  I use to naturally float and had to work to get to the bottom.  I tried it today in my deep end and just sunk like a rock all the way to the bottom to a sitting position.  I have never done that in my life!

It felt so good to be back in the water.  I did 100 laps in my pool.  Don't know how far that is, I'll have to work that out someday, but it takes me about 45 min to an hour.  I didn't actually time it, I will next time.

YAY!

I'm dying to get in the pool around here.  We dont' have a heater, and I'm very sensitive to the cold, so I might be able to at least soak up some sunshine next to the pool this weekend since it's not supposed to crack 80.

When I get some $$ I'm going to consider joining a pool to do laps.  The one I have is too short for real swimming.

Enjoy!
