10K I DID IT!!!!
I posted recently about low energy & running. I increased my protein (thanks for the advice!) and took on a 10K just to see if I could do it. I reasoned that if I ran 5k and had to walk the 5k back that would be ok. Well, I did have to take some walk breaks but I did it in 1 hr 25 mins. Not only did I suprise myself but also motiavted my running buddy to do the same and today she did in 1 hr 15. Next sunday is our first 10k race so excited!!
Great job! You're going to do great at your 10K! Have fun with it.

Congrats!!
I did my 2nd 10K on Saturday and believe me I started out just like you. My first fitness goal was to walk a 5k, well, 6 months after my RNY I slogged (slow jog) the 5k in the same walk/5/10K event that I had failed the walk the year before (that failed 2 mile walk was the push to get into my bariatric program). My speed was about 16 min/mile that year, but I did it and was so impressed with myself--as I hope you are!!
Last October I did the 10K for the same race and was able to make it, with a few walking breaks, but was at about 13 min/mile. So my big goal this year is to run the 10K in October with an 11min/mile pace. On my way there I just finsihed a 10K Saturday that was 2/3 uphill over the first 3 miles, and then another 2 big uphills near the end. My pace was 12min/mile so I can really say I'm on my way.
I can't wait to see where I am in October, but to creaet one last push goal, I decided to run the Utica, NY Boilermaker in July. It is a major event with international elite distance runners. I am by no means an elite runner, but I used to work the event as a paramedic and decided that after 5 years of scrapping up the failures, I was going to do the race and succed! I'm hoping to finish within range of my 12 min pace, but won't be upset (since it is in seriously hot July and further than I can even imagine right now) if I can do better than a 13.5 pace.
I think challenging ourselves is the best we can do. Keep going but remember to keep it fun at the same time.

12min miles on a hilly course you should have no problem****ting your goal of 11min miles. Keep training and you will get there.
Look forward to your race report when you hit your goal.
