Bike routes...

I've mentioned this before but thought it worth repeating.  You can go to Google Maps...Type in your own area...Click on more info and pull up local bike routes in your area.  I think that is really cool.  Don't know how good the info is, but you might want to check it out.  Below Bicycling Magazine has a "Find a new bike route".  Don't know if the link will work, but if you go to their website I'm sure you can pull it up.

 I use mapmyride.com too.  The best part about it is it shows the elevation so you can see if there are any monster hills!

I checked that one out just now...Tried a few different routes.  Some were very good.  But one route had me in the middle of a 3 lane freeway...

They are only as good as the people who draw them.

The think I like about it is that it will upload or download to the Garmin.

So I can track my rides or upload a ride to the Garmin and get turn by turn directions.
It also gives the metrics for the ride, altitude, heart rate etc.

Also some highways are legal to drive on.  The 400 KM ride I did had us doing a stretch of about 8 miles on Hwy 101
